What We’re Reading: EIA expects U.S. annual solar electricity generation to surpass hydropower in 2024

The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) anticipates that in 2024, the United States will generate 14% more electricity from solar energy than hydropower, marking the first time annual solar generation surpasses hydropower.

Incentives like investment tax credits have spurred the growth of renewable generation capacity and the ongoing expansion of utility-scale and small-scale solar facilities. This growth has occurred at an average rate of 44% annually from 2009 to 2022, while hydropower capacity increased by less than 1% yearly. Read more >
