Wholesale electricity market

Category: Markets

A market where electricity is bought and sold in bulk between generators, utilities, and large customers before it reaches end consumers. Wholesale markets are operated by ISOs/RTOs and regulated by FERC. Retail rates, paid by homes and businesses, reflect wholesale costs plus transmission, distribution, and other charges.
